Copper Hills High School Sets New Record for Blood Donations

CHHS HOSA Students The Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) at Copper Hills High School have once again showcased their commitment to community service by breaking their record for blood donations. In a remarkable display of generosity, the school collected 174 units of blood during last month’s drive, surpassing the previous record of 170 units set in May 2024. The blood drive qualifies Copper Hils High School’s HOSA students for a $900 scholarship!

These blood drives are crucial in supporting the needs of Utahns facing health crises. According to ARUP Blood Services, a minimum of 75 donors is required daily to meet the demand, with a monthly target of 2,200 units of blood needed. Each high school HOSA program within 鶹 District contributes to this vital effort by organizing blood drives for ARUP Blood Services.

A heartfelt thank you to the HOSA students and staff at Copper Hills High School for their unwavering dedication to helping others and significantly impacting lives through their blood donation initiatives.

IB Parent Information Night

IB Art Students at West Jordan High SchoolWest Jordan High School will be holding an information meeting for the International Baccalaureate (IB) program on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. in the West Jordan High Media Center. This is an opportunity for parents and guardians to learn more about the IB college prep program and ask questions about what’s involved and what advantages the program offers.

IB courses are advanced courses that are designed to provide students with deep inquiry and understanding in a content area and prepare students for university level course work. Many universities accept IB courses for college credit and give high regard to IB courses for college acceptance as well as scholarship opportunities. Students can begin taking IB courses in 11th grade and most exams are at the end of 12th grade.

IB students work closely together in a small cohort on projects and course work building relationships and learning from one another. The focus of these classes is on collaborative learning and mutual knowledge exchange in order to prepare students for career and college readiness.

Students can engage as a full IB diploma student which includes taking six IB courses and earning the IB diploma in addition to their high school diploma. Alternatively, students can take the courses individually and earn an IB certificate and college credit for each IB course they complete.

For more information please join us on Jan. 22 or email our IB coordinator, Chandler Bishop at chandler.bishop@jordandistrict.org.
